Bellevue, Washington – July 2, 2009 – Parker, Smith & Feek has won the inaugural Steppin’ It up in Seattle Challenge”. The competition consisting of six of the largest insurance brokers in Puget Sound was the first of its kind.
144 participants competed by using state-of-the-art pedometers and recording stations to record every step taken. A total of 37 million steps were recorded; the equivalent of 18,700 miles or walking from Seattle to New York six times!
“This challenge has improved the way individuals are feeling, brought people together in the office and allowed us to give back to the community at the same time,” said Erica Smith from American Specialty Health who sponsored the event.
Parker, Smith & Feek won having stepped over 12 million steps as a firm, averaging over 19,000 steps per person per day. Team captain Debi Jefferson was also the top female stepping just short of 800,000 steps.
CEO and President of Parker, Smith & Feek Greg Collins said: “The Steppin’ it up challenge allowed us, including myself, to practice what we preach. We help our clients manage the costs and quality of their healthcare programs and an integral part of achieving that is helping them create a healthier workforce.
Internally we continue our program by offering, Onsite Boot Camps, Yoga and Core Strengthening classes, as well as a fully equipped workout room to keep our employees active regardless of their current fitness or activity level.”
